Glam Lab Lead Instructor/
Master Makeup Artist
As a former corporate manager of one of the biggest banks in
corporate America she has now retired from that phase of her life. A single
mother of three, I managed to work, go to college full-time, and work on
a double degree. I accomplished a personal goal of mines when I walked across the stage.
To my friends and family, I'm often consulted on matters of the
heart, Spirituality and life issues. Encouraged by a mentor I began my
next journey of writing. During my corporate career I was known as the
“Subject Matter Expert” for the Foreclosure Audit and Review Department.
Consulted and commissioned by Senior Vice President, I created the
new training manual for the department. The training manual for the
Foreclosure Audit Review Department is still used today, to train new
employees. After completing that training manual, I was commissioned
by the City of Dallas Environment and Code Compliance Department to co-write the training
Manual for their new Code Compliance Trainees. This manual is still
used today for training new hires.
Being a true goal-getter I became very interested in Fashion
and Makeup Industry. In high school I was head cheerleader and won
the school beauty contest. The teachers and students gave her a nickname
“Lil Miss Makeup”. She was always a makeup lover. She made the decision
to begin her next journey of becoming a Makeup Artist. In 2014 she
became a freelance makeup artist. Her clientele grew quickly. New
freelance makeup appointments became regular. With the desire to be her
best, she knew that she needed to do more to make in order for her
makeup career to be a success.
After some research, she realized that getting a makeup certification would allow
her to go further in the profession and be taken more seriously.
Being a natural student, she researched makeup schools in the area.
Glam Lab Makeup Studios Certification Program was found in her search.
Known as the #1 Makeup Studio in the Country, she knew this was the school for her.
The school also had an agency and apprenticeship program. I enrolled in the
certification program. For some reason, she knew on the day of the class,
this school would change her life, and it did more than that.
After class, she inquired about the apprenticeship program. The instructor
had already witnessed her natural leadership abilities and makeup skills,
during class. She was able to get an interview with the instructor for the
apprenticeship program. The instructor is a well accomplished makeup
artist in the industry. When additional assistance was needed on
makeup assignments, her instructor invited her to assist because she was
impressed with her skills. As a result from her assisting her instructor she
sharpened her skills even more.
The owner of the makeup school quickly noticed that not only was
she advanced in her makeup skills, she had a former career in corporate
America, also, she had the look and appearance that fit the description of
her definition of an instructor of Glam Lab. She was asked to audition for an
Instructor position at the school. Her resume, makeup skills and
appearance as a makeup artist, she intrigued the owner. After the audition,
the owner called and offered her a position as an instructor. Now being an
instructor, she had weekly phone conferences with the owner. The owner
quickly became a mentor to her. Being the owner, former New York runway
model, and artist, it was fascinating to have her as a mentor.
As a result, today I am the Lead Makeup Instructor for Glam Lab
Dallas, Chicago and Houston. Known as “Katrina D.” Lead Instructor for
Glam Lab and Master MUA.
